The goodly tree
There was a goodly tree because of god's fashion upon it. It dwelt by a flowing stream and bore abundant good fruit for every manner of godliness. But when men came to it they said let us not eat from its branches lest it be lofty and look down upon us. So they cut it down and broke off its branches and digged at its roots until they were sure it was dead. Then of the fallen fruit they partook their fill, and part of the tree they burned with fire to warm themselves and some they fashioned with their crafts into whatever they listed and the rest was left to rot upon the ground. But a few seeds thereof fell into the ground and died with the tree and sprang up and bore much fruit.
